The Florida Health Care Activity Coordinators Association was born from the general
need to offer continuing education for all Activity Professionals. The Association stemmed from a
thirty-six hour course, held in March 1973 that was attended by more than sixty
activity coordinators and directors from all over the state of
Florida.
Coordinators found they had much in common.
They had many questions and similar problems. In 1974, the Administrators of the
Florida Health Care Association met and authorized the Activity Coordinators
over the state to form the Association.
At that time the FHCACA was made up of four regions and fourteen
districts. Today over 16 districts
strong the Association provides both at a district level, which has its own
officers and meetings, and state level the opportunity to exchange ideas to
upgrade resident care by using the therapeutic tool of recreation.
FHCACA is dedicated to serving its membership by providing for both personal and
professional growth with continuing education from credentialed and qualified
national, state and local instructors.
FHCACA holds an annual conference in the summer where participants have
the opportunity to attend between 13 and 16 hours of general education that
encompasses regulatory issues, innovative programming ideas, cultural trends,
vendors from around the country specializing in resources for Activity
Professionals working with their population at all levels of ability and the
opportunity to network with peers from around the state.
FHCACA sponsors a Mid-Year Seminar in the winter that offers 5-6 hours of continuing
education and often provides Regional Workshops throughout the State to inform
all members of the Association on the latest news, scientific research,
direction on documentation, and the newest requirements mandated on a state and
national level for Activities
FHCACA’s goal: “TO BETTER SERVE THE NEEDS OF RESIDENTS IN HEALTH CARE FACILITIES”
and motto “HELPING RESIDENTS LIVE LIFE” is at the forefront of all the
association’s business transactions and day to day operations.
