President's Message

Greetings to all my Colleagues.

I want to thank you for your continued support of our great organization. The past several months have been very busy. The new year is fast approaching and we are full steam ahead. We will soon be together at our Mid Year Seminar in Orlando, Florida on February 4, 2012. I want to encourage all of you to attend this outstanding workshop. Tonia Hooker, a National Speaker, will be our guest for the day. Her hands on approach mixed with her unique style of humor, is hard hitting and memorable for participants. Information is included in this issue of News-Line, so be sure and make your reservations early.

Plans are well underway for next year's conference that will be held in Jacksonville. Our conference committee has lots of wonderful things in the works and more information will be forthcoming in the new year.

Our Professional Development Chair, Judy Skilton, is accepting the call for papers and has already received some proposals for the conference. To download your application, please go to forms and documents tab on our website at www.myfhcaca.org . She is hoping to add some new dynamic dimensions to our conference programming this year with new topics and faces. The committee is developing an educational program to address the most requested topics from last year's conference. Judy has started an education bank of speakers and topics and is looking to expand it, so if you have a favorite speaker or topic please contact her at judy.skilton@healthcentral.org. Through collaboration and team work FHCACA will continue to seek out the best programs for continuing education.

I was recently invited to attend the FHCA board meeting in Boca Grande. I emphasized the fact that we need the support of our Administrators and was pleased at the favorable response I got out of this meeting. I have just written an article for the FHCA Pulse in hopes of keeping the lines of communication open and letting our administrators know that we are professionals and we remain true to our heart in "Helping Residents Live Life".

I am honored and excited to have been selected to serve on the FHCA Florida Leaders Program Class 2012. By the time you read this article I will have already visited Tallahassee for the kickoff of this leadership program.

The 2012 Legislative session is fast approaching and before you know it we will be walking the halls of the capital. We must focus our efforts this year and reach out to all our legislators. You can become involved by inviting your lawmakers into your facilities or by writing letters of concern to them. They need to know all the good work we are doing to promote Quality of Life for our Residents. We will soon find out what issues will impact us the most this year and we will pass this information on to you. FHCA has invited us back again this year to participate in this worthwhile cause, Lobby Wednesday. If you have not planned to attend a Lobby Wednesday, you should take advantage of this . Your presence at the capital is important. You need to be ready to, Stand up and Be Recognized. Together as a Team we can make a Difference!

National Activity Professional week will be celebrated January, 22-28 2012. I want to congratulate all of you for your commitment to this wonderful profession. You enhance the lives of our residents and spend each day working toward building self esteem, the social involvement and sense of self worth of those under your care. You have dedicated your selves to making the lives of many older adults normal and more meaningful.

"Activity Professionals Put Quality into Life, One Person at a Time". Happy Activity Professional Day!

I want to wish each of you a Happy and Healthy Holiday season and take time for yourself and spend time with your families and loved ones.
